We all learned a few strategy tips. Figure out what your opponent wants to do, then don't let him do it. New players Learned checkmate with just a K and Q.  Week 1 We learned rules of castling and the history behind the en passant move. We also learned about ratings. Beginners start at 100. Those who know how to play start at 200. Those who have been in one of my classes will start where they were last session. Ways to earn rating points: Gain 5 points each time you come to chess club. Gain points from worksheets - typically 2 points per problem solved, up to 18 points. Successfully demonstrating a skill mastered for 10 to 20 points. Winning a game against a higher rated player is worth 16 to 32 points. Winning a game against a lower rated player is worth 1 to 15 points. Drawing against a stronger player is worth 0 to 15 points. Losing a game will cost you anywhere from 1 to 32 points. Drawing against a lower rated player will cost you from 1 ti 16 points.
